FROM RHETT REID, GENERAL MANAGER:
Rusk County Electric buys power within the regional transmission organization (RTO) known as the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) which among other duties, monitors transmission grid reliability.
Earlier today SPP issued an Energy Emergency Alert level 3. At this level, electric utilities are given notice to shed load and begin rolling blackouts.
Fortunately, today this did not affect the East Texas area of SPP. However, through Wednesday the chance of this occurring is higher than normal.
Rolling blackouts happen due to the generation capacity not meeting the load demand.
To reduce this chance, Rusk County Electric members can help.
Please turn down thermostats, turn off lights that are not being used and try not to use large appliances around lunch/dinner hours.
Will will update members as we receive them from SPP on our Facebook page
